Days 1 - 2
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you’ll be warmly greeted by your driver/guide. If time allows, enjoy a brief city tour, visiting landmarks such as the Genocide Memorial, vibrant local markets, or the Kimironko Craft Center to experience Rwanda’s rich history and culture. Afterward, embark on a scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park, a journey that takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours, offering stunning views of Rwanda's picturesque countryside. Upon arrival, check in at your lodge and enjoy a delicious dinner and a pre-trek briefing to prepare for your upcoming adventure.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park
Start your day with an early breakfast at the lodge before transferring to the Kinigi Park Headquarters for your briefing around 6:30 AM. Here, you’ll receive important information on gorilla trekking etiquette and be assigned to a group based on your fitness level.
Your unforgettable gorilla trekking adventure begins as you venture into the forest in search of the majestic gorilla families. The trek’s duration can vary from 1 to 6 hours, depending on the location of the gorillas. Once located, you'll spend an intimate hour observing these incredible creatures in their natural habitat. Afterward, return to base and receive a certificate to commemorate this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
After a rewarding morning, enjoy a delicious lunch at the lodge. The afternoon offers a chance to visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village, take a local community walk, or simply relax and unwind at the lodge.
Days 3
Day 3: Return to Kigali – Departure
After a hearty breakfast at the lodge, enjoy an optional short activity to round off your adventure. You can choose to hike to the Dian Fossey Tomb (a moderate 3–4 hour round trip) or opt for a Golden Monkey Trek, which starts around 7 AM and offers a shorter but equally captivating experience compared to the gorilla trek.
Late morning, begin your scenic drive back to Kigali, reflecting on the memories of your journey. Upon arrival, you’ll have the option for last-minute shopping or a leisurely lunch in Kigali before being dropped off at Kigali Airport or your hotel for your onward journey.
